L-Group
L-group refers to a specific shape in the corner that forms an L. This shape is dead even if Black plays first. The proverb says: "The L-group is dead". It plays often a role in capturing races where the liberties are important. Other related shapes, such as L+1 group, L+2 group, Long L group, J group and J+1 Group have different outcomes.
