PopsInABox: This doesn’t make sense to me. I realize the expected answer is 7… but I don’t understand why. White only has 4 liberties left. How is the answer 7? Are we using the term liberties in an unspecified, non-standard way? I just bought the full Monty on here but I’m second guessing that decision now.

Maybe "locally unanswered moves" would be clearer.
Zerodan: The question is a bit uncertain. One should ask about how many liberties the group has. If black answers, white has to make more moves than the group has liberties.

The question is asked this way to emphasize that this dead group won't be naively killed in 4 moves.
