d4rkm4tter: Yes, it is seki, but it is not a better response. In S2-Q2 the opponent captures 2 stones (4 points) and has sente, white has 2 points. S2-S1 is seki, no points and ends in gote. So the seki is 2 points worse and ends in gote. Sente in the endgame is worth double as a rule of thumb.
