caranthir: Sorry, those coordinates don't make sense to me. I suppose you mean the points A9 and C8. My understanding is that the ko becomes too heavy for us that way. If you look at Katago evaluation, extending at A9 is about 4.5 points worse than taking the ko directly. Taking the ko is the only move, nothing else is even decent.
