@TwT (2jan25) apologies for the delayed response. Another source that refers to this as a clamp is Richard Bozulich “The Second Book of Go” (Ishi © 1987) Clamps : pg 29, Dia 51…55 . The config there is essentially identical to this Kano problem, including the 3 stone wall and the two stones nestled between three opponent groups. ............ (RB) “The clamp of (black 1 in dia 54) [current position] ( F6 ) is the only move that will succeed in capturing the pivotal (white) stones” ............ It would be instructive if this problem showed up when “clamp” is used as a filter. But to make that happen I think “clamp” would need to be a legitimate tag. Perhaps there are good reasons not to allow this. ............ Glad to see you, guile and Joschka arrived at a solution that preserves the ref to a clamp in the tag and brings to light the bamboo joint aspect of the problem. ............ ** Note : Kano V2 158, Kano v3 11, have both tags: clamp & breaking bamboo clamp .......... Best ecd

New tag proposal "dont break breaks" ^^
    TwT:
(Sobbing, trying not to cry) Master Guile, could you please elaborate on your meta-joke for someone who often feels misunderstood?

    TwT:
New Tag: "Breaking Bamboo Tesuji," as suggested by Joschka. I appreciate this name because it captures the concept of preventing the bamboo from leading to damezumari-like tesuji situations. However, it's best to calculate the implications first. The tag will be implemented as soon as it is accepted.

I don't think the Clamp is the main idea here. It is more about preventing the Bamboo joint and the idea that "my opponent's good point is my good point too"
    TwT:
To my knowledge, this tesuji was first introduced in English by James Davis in "Tesuji" (1975), where he referred to it as the clamping or slapping tesuji (see pp. 18 and 21). I even pestered Joschka during his well-deserved Christmas break to discuss my tagging concerns. To prevent confusion with the second line clamp, I created a new tag. @ecdave: If you have a better solution, your input would be greatly appreciated.
